Currently in order to see if an asset is set to index or publish you have to edit the asset and go to the system tab. Adding indicators for these two items to the properties page would save several steps.

Totally agree. It's also counter-intuitive that you would need write access to an asset to be able to check the value of this property.

Also agreed. I would actually suggest going a step further and modifying each of the asset type icons in the tree view with small watermarks to indicate their indexing and publishing status. Assets with index = on, publish = on appear the same as they do now, but if indexing is turned off, place an indicator in the upper left of the icon. If publishing is turned off, place an indicator in the lower left of the icon. Perhaps an I and a P with a crossed line through it.

This would make it a lot easier for us to understand what will happen when a folder is published and allay some concerns about staged content that is set to not publish, but is poorly (that is, really not at all) communicated by the system to end-user screens.
