It would be really cool to have a “tagging” metadata field type or a dropdown that also had a text box to add items. That way, users could add categories as needed, but would still receive a list of all existing categories. The interface could be like the search autocomplete or more like a traditional drop-down menu.

Alternatively the a new metadata dropdown element could be created that would point at an index block to get its display list and selection values. This could be used for indexing a collection of blocks. Display the block name, but select the block path. Then use that path to pull that particular block in and use it.

This sounds similar to how the wired Keywords field is handled in the sense of tying to a list on the back-end. Just AJAX-ify it on the user interface, and allow us to create more than one list of words per Cascade install. Blogmarks.net (a delicious competitor) does a great job with this kind of tagging.

Tagging would be a good feature addition

However, with tagging the default baked out nature of pages is expensive. This would require some dynamic rendering of content IMO to generate say a tag cloud or other tag navigation aid. I'd like to see CS start to include a front end dynamic framework of tags...
